— Eliane Gervasoni

Born in Basel, Eliane Gervasoni lives and works in Lausanne, Switzerland. She studied printmaking and participated in printmaking workshops in Switzerland and the UK. She was a member of HBP Printmakers studio in Manchester UK where she worked until 2010. In 2002 she opened her own printing studio in Lausanne.

In 1999, she obtained the 1st prize at 19th Mini Print International in Cadaques (SP). The same year she held a solo exhibition at Gallery Taller Fort in Cadaques where she exhibited 30 carborundum prints. During her stay in Spain, she was one of the jurors of the Miniprint Int Cadaques competition. Subsequently exhibitions in Spain, Switzerland, France, Czech Republic, UK, USA and Italy followed.

Eliane Gervasoni specialises in various printmaking techniques like etching, engravure, carborundum, collagraphs and embossing. From 2006, she has moved away from traditional printmaking techniques through an experimental process and has worked with industrial parts related to construction or other materials were diverted from their original function. More recently she has specialized particularly in embossing extra-white mould-made paper in order to exploit the interplay of shadow and light.

Interested in experimental musical composition, she has been particularly captivated by John Cage’s book, Silence, lectures and writings. Based on anarchist and Zen/Buddhist thinking, Cage often broke the rules and boundaries of traditional forms of expression. Eliane Gervasoni has debuted with a new series of fine art prints by experimenting with multiplicity – repeated sequences and their rhythm. The series Singular forms nearly alwas repeated was exhibited in Lausanne, Bern and Geneva in 2009 and 2010.

In 2010, she presented her first original artist book, Slowly nowhere at Tirage Limité at Palais de Rumine, Lausanne, with a limited edition of three, text embossed by hand, 33 pages, inspired by Silence, lectures and writingsby John Cage.

Also captivated by architecture, Eliane Gervasoni has taken inspiration from architect Louis I. Kahn’s work and the book Silence and light. His philosophical reflections, spiritual search and desire for a materialized sensuality and symbolic presence of buildings moved her in particular. In tribute to Louis I. Kahn she showed a new series of fine art prints in 2012 at Musée de Carouge, Adresses and in her solo exhibition in 2013 at Galerie E.S.F. Art & Design, Lausanne.

In 2012, based on her musical and architectural aspirations in printmaking, she started a series of new drawings, experimenting with serial declinations and exploring simple forms and their evolution on black paper. With the repetition of lines, a sequence of white lines and their variations, she obtains vibrations and optical effects which enliven the works, making them sometimes two-dimensional.
In 2016, she held her first solo exhibition in Italy, Come potrei cacchiare, se prima non disegnassi? at Gallery Gasparelli Arte Contemporanea with huge drawings (140×180 cm) and a sculpture of ImperfettoLab (IT).

In 2013, she showed her drawings in an exhibition called Ah! la vita barocca pluriforme, a tradimento mi titilla in Italy for the first time, curated by Gasparelli Arte Contemporanea. In 2014 followed the exhibition Mais de quelle réalité parlez-vous? curated by Gasparelli Arte Contemporanea and Patricia Lunghi at Bâtiment des Télégraphes, Lausanne.

The same year Eliane Gervasoni participated in the exhibition Non ci sono che io con le mie chimere stasera, e un corpo stavo per dimenticarlo in the industrial space Ver San in Verona (IT), curated by Gasparelli Arte Contemporanea.

At the same time, she was invited to show a drawing at the personal exhibition of Imperfettolab in Palazzi Tiranni in Cali (IT). In November 2016, she participated in the exhibition L’espace efface le bruit at Galerie La Ferme de la Chapelle, Geneva.

In 2017, the exhibition Comé potrei cacciare, se prima non disegnassi ? is shown at Galerie ID50 in Geneva.

In November 2017, she presents Resonances, a series of drawings at Mobilab Gallery in Lausanne followed by two group exhibitions at the art space La Fabrik in Monthey.
In 2019, two huge drawings are exhibited at Design Days „on tour“ in Lausanne followed by the solo exhibition Perception of possibilities, a new series of original prints at Abordage in Saint-Sulpice near Lausanne.

Eliane Gervasoni is one of the artists of the Gallery Gasparelli Arte Contemporanea (IT) and Mobilab Gallery (CH).
